Your guide will pick you up at your accommodation at 9 am, and you will all drive towards the brooding, smoldering Mount Etna, which dominates the entire Eastern Sicily region.
Heading up ancient lava flows, we will reach an altitude approaching 2000 meters, taking in breathtaking views. Your tour will start with a magnificent walk on the edge of extinct craters in order to understand the structure of the volcano and the life cycle of an eruption. Afterwards, equipped with torches and helmets (which we will provide), you will enter a lava cave. Your specialist guide will explain all about the formation of such caves/galleries.

Following this excursion, we will depart by car to visit a lovely local Sicilian winery that produces high quality wines from its vineyards. The area’s volcanic soil, which is rich in minerals, its peculiar micro-climate with important temperature fluctuations, and a savoir-faire that goes back generations, produce wines with a freshness and a lightness not seen anywhere else in Sicily.
Following the visit of the estate, we indulge in a wine tasting that will give you some insight into the stunning diversity of the Etna’s wine-making traditions. Most wines are based on native Sicilian grape varieties with their rich fruit and mineral flavors. Your Sicilian wine tasting at the winery will be accompanied by a light lunch.

These excursions do not present any particular difficulties. they are graded easy to medium – on the condition that participants do not present any respiratory condition or other significant health problems like high blood pressure.

Note: pick-up and drop-off from your accommodation in the area of Catania or Taormina is included in the rate. Pick-up/drop-off from other locations can be organized with an extra charge.
