Travel to Sicily

The geography

With a land surface of more than 25.000 km2, Sicily is the biggest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
With over 1000km of coastline, mountain chains, present in different parts of the island, and huge swaths
of very dry land, Sicily offers a great variety of ecosystems.
The plain of Catane, which is at the feet of the volcano Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, is the most
fertile land on the island. And it is there that the production of citrus fruits is the most significant.

When to go:

Spring Temperatures are fast rising, and the interior is just spectacular, with an extremely colorful
countryside and ideal temperatures for walking and other outdoor activities. During the Easter season,
the ancestral town and village processions are well worth a trip! Touring Sicily in the Spring is ideal
as historical sites are not crowded.

Summer In the summer months, the landscape changes drastically as temperatures rise.
The summer months are ideal for a holiday by the sea, particularly during June and July when the sea
and beaches remain largely deserted. The summer months are equally pleasant in the interior.
The park of the Madonies is a top destination for those wishing to combine succulent food, spectacular scenery
and tranquility, with cooler temperatures. Grape harvesting begins in August.

Autumn The arrival of the autumn is often celebrated with significant storms. Yet the latter quickly give
way to a very pleasant period with temperatures remaining very comfortable. It is not infrequent to find
people on the beaches until December. The autumn months are also a true delight to the eyes and the senses.
The vineyards turn to a wide variety of oranges, reds and purples, and olives, mandarins, nuts, etc,
are harvested, events that are celebrated in various towns and villages throughout the island. Sicily’s
nouveau wine (Novello) is on sale in November.

Winter Temperatures are at their lowest, though one can still experience agreeable temperatures during the day.
In February, the harvest of citruses is on, and the almond trees are in blossom. In March, wild flowers are already
found in abundance in the interior.
